Overhaul and rebuilding of the lighting starter machines of diesel-hydraulic locomotives

The BR 218 (V160 family) was the most important German mainline diesel locomotive for decades. A total of 410 units were built in the 1970s and operated by Deutsche Bundesbahn. Even today, over 100 units are still in service with DB and various private railways. To keep these machines operational, comprehensive overhauls are necessary, as spare parts are either very difficult to obtain or no longer available at all. Here, our technicians—who are also thoroughly familiar with older machines—were able to help and completely rebuild the lighting starter machine that had suffered winding damage.
