Faulty door drives often present a serious problem: the drive is small, but a failure has a major impact on the train's availability. Doors that do not open significantly disrupt operations, especially during commuter traffic, or can even lead to the vehicle being taken out of service. The cause is often defective controls or defective drive motors. Moreover, a fault in one component can lead to damage in the other: a defective control unit can damage the motor, or a faulty motor can destroy electronic components in the control unit. Regular preventive maintenance of the motors can provide a remedy here. Cleaning, turning the commutators, and replacing the brushes are a cost-effective and logistically fast alternative to replacement. We observe this issue in various combinations: vehicles such as the Stadler Flirt or the Alstom Lint with door controls from Bode or Faiveley. And we have also helped with maintenance on trams, significantly reducing unexpected failures.
